Helen's Wedding

The Choir at the Wedding of Helen, one of the Choristers

Christian's Page - August

Hello, and welcome to another Christian's page. The choir has been very busy this month and has had lots of music to sing, and I expect that we are all looking forward to our summer break.

Firstly, I will take a brief moment to tell you about my organ exam which happened on 3 July. I have been very grateful for all of the people who have come and enquired as to how the exam went. As with all exams, you can never be too sure as to how one has done. However, the examiner was a very nice gentleman and I felt much more relaxed in this exam than I have felt in any other exam. I am not sure whether this was a good or a bad thing. I am glad that the exam has finished, although I am already beginning to contemplate the next one, which will be grade 7, that I will hopefully take in the winter of this year.

Secondly, I would like to say congratulations to Helen Harris and her family on the baptism of Jocelyn Kara on 7 July. I know that I speak for the whole choir and congregation and we are looking forward to seeing Helen back with the choir soon (hopefully).

Thirdly, the choir has been looking forward to the Exon Singers' Festival at the end of this month. Unfortunately, you will probably be reading this after it has happened.

Finally, I would like to share with you some extracts from actual church notices from other churches, which were kindly given to me by other members of the choir. I hope you find them amusing. We certainly did!

'At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be “What is Hell?” Come early and listen to our choir practice.' (Although of course this does not apply to our choir).

'The eighth-graders will be presenting Shakespeare's Hamlet in the church basement on Friday at 7 pm. The congregation is invited to attend this tragedy.

'The pastor will preach his farewell message, after which the choir will sing”Break forth into Joy”.'

I would like to wish you a happy and 'sunny' summer from myself and all the choir!
